Euler Disk from the point view of fix sampling
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Aug 6, 2013
Euler Disk is confined to hard surface, compared to free top. Euler disk viewed from fix sampling, such as fix screen capture frequency, you can see Euler disk move faster or slower than fix review frequency, to adjust the increased or decreased angular moment from precession. http://www.camdemy.com/media/2750 Need more data to confirm

This item has been the most fascinating toy I think I've ever seen. My son-in-law told me about these, and I immediately went to google to find one. The grand kids love it.I have all boys, and when we get the disk out and start playing with it they stop what they're doing and come to watch. They love to do it also. This is definitely money well spent. My son-in-law has even taken it to work to show all of his coworkers. You can't stop playing with it.

It is amazing this disk can go on as long as it does. The last 30 seconds are the most interesting exciting.

HYPNOTIC!

Kids can't imagine this toy beeing a fabulous top. But when they see it in action everyone want to feel and hear the rotating disk. It is very entertaining when there is 3 or 4 of them spinning at the same time.

I bought this a while back as a scientific investigation station for my 3rd - 5th grade class. They really enjoy messing around with it- but the best is hearing them begin to ask those scientific questions...

This has been a great demo item to teach many science concepts in an exciting and curious way. This is an item that brings the excitement back into science. Students are fascinated with watching and hearing the disc. And then you have their attnetion to teach the "science" behind.

Euler's Disk
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon May 16, 2012
We've all spun pennies before and know that they really don't spin very long. As you see from the videos here, Euler's Disk just keeps going and going and going. This is a wonderful demonstration that has the kids on the edge of their seats. They keep expecting it to stop at any moment and the fact that it doesn't brings out smiles of amazement. And, instead of finally giving up and just coming to an end, it speeds up and ends with a satisfying "Zip!" that makes them jump. I use this in my science shows and it's always a hit. Highly recommended.

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-PS2-1

Students can use Euler's Disk in an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

2-PS3-1

Students can use Euler's Disk in an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.

3-PS3-1

Students can use Euler's Disk to plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.

4-PS3-1

Students can use Euler's Disk in an investigation to gather evidence to construct an explanation relating the speed of an object to the energy of the object.

MS-PS2-2

Students can use Euler's Disk in an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object's motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.

MS-PS3-1

Students can use Euler's Disk as a concrete introduction and demonstration on mass and motion. Students can construct and interpret graphical displays of data to describe the relationships of kinetic energy to the mass of an object and to the speed of an object.

HS-PS2-2

Students can use Euler's Disk to demonstrate how mass and momentum affect motion. This can be transferred into a mathematical representation to support the claim that the total momentum of a system of an object is conserved when there is no net force on the system.

HS-PS3-1

Students can use Euler's Disk as a physical model in conjunction with a computational model to calculate the change in the energy of one component in a system when there is a change in energy of the other components.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

Euler's Disk encourages exploration of force, mass, density, gravity, friction, and time.

HS-PS4-1

Younger students can use Euler's Disk for a compare-and-contrast investigation using a variety of textured materials to spin the disk on.

Students can use the Euler's Disk to run a variety of investigations to study potential and kinetic energy. The spinning and rolling - referred to as spolling - is a captivating visual presentation. The Euler's Disk's unique sounds create opportunities for understanding energy transfer in the form of sound energy and ultimately Conservation of Energy principles. With observations and collection of data during trials, physical factors such as friction and gravity can be discussed and examined.
