Description

Like a hand-held Tesla Coil

This Oudin Coil is often mistakenly referred to as a hand-held Tesla Coil. The coil is self-contained in a heavy duty Bakelite case which forms a convenient handle. The spark is adjustable from 10,000-50,000 volts at frequencies of approximately 1/2 megahertz. The high frequency spark produced is about 1 inch long and can be used for a wide array of applications. The electrode is approximately 2 inches long and the instrument is furnished with an intensity adjusting knob. For 115 v, 50/60 Hz. An improved safety feature is the on/off momentary switch in the handle. Runs on standard North American line current, 110 volts 60 Hz

Tesla Coil available separately. Replacement tips in stock while supplies last.

I use the "Oudin Coil" to help my 4th graders better understand energy. Using three helpers, each connected, hand by hand, with two of the helpers holding a compact fluorescent bulb, I use the "Oudin Coil" to send electricity through the helpers, aka wires, to "light up" the bulb." The kids go wild!

A Safe Tesla Coil
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Feb 27, 2015
After our 20 year old Tesla Coil could no longer be revived, I searched for its replacement. I found the best price on a new one from Educational Innovations. Not only was it the best price, but this model is much safer to use because it is activated with a safety button in the center of the unit. Press the button to discharge a thrilling zap, release it to stop. This added feature makes it safe and comfortable to use as opposed to the older style that requires you to turn the dial on the bottom to turn the coil on and off, which requires two hands. I am very pleased with the Tesla Coil, the price, and the quick shipping. Thank you!

It is a good piece of equipment. Very reliable and well built. I wish the removable tip could be held in place a little more securely. But I can live with the method provided.

Excellent & Safe
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Jul 25, 2014
This is really a phenomenal piece for demonstrations. The sparks produced are beautiful, and you can use regular CFL bulbs to show that they light up, as well as using the neon bulbs which are harder to obtain. Being shocked by it is really not that bad, basically like a strong static shock. I used to have a novelty shocking pen that was far, far more painful than the shock from this. I am considering having students make their own model lightning rod, and then I would go from group to group testing the effectiveness with this. I haven't fully figured it out yet. Great purchase.

I have ordered all 4 of my Oudin coils from Educational Innovations. I use them in our science demonstrations. They are safe to work with and even if shocked it leaves no lasting damage. Great product during our demonstrations to show electron flow.
