Fluorescent Mineral Set - 5 Samples

SKU #RM-415
Availability: Out of Stock
An uncommon and totally cool addition to any mineral unit.

Description

These common fluorescent minerals are sensitive to long-wave ultraviolet (UVA) light and can be made to fluoresce using any of the fluorescent "black lights" we carry. Fluorescence is sometimes used to identify certain minerals and can change some rather ordinary looking rocks into marvels of colors and light. Once your students see these samples, they will be eager to test all of the rocks they find. An uncommon and totally cool addition to any mineral unit your students won't soon forget. Don't forget to check out our line of UV lights. Includes samples of Sphalerite, Willemite, Calcite, Fluorite, and Wernerite with ID cards.

Nice set of rocks!

I bought these for a 7 year-old just showing an interest in rocks and minerals. They are quite large and I was pleased that most fluoresced nicely at 395 nm, the relatively- safer (for a child) LED flashlight I gave her. All were brightly fluorescent at 365 nm, but I'm withholding that lamp until her parents say it's ok.
