Greatest Buy Ever

I have had these on my desk as a teacher for the past 5 years. They are so popular that I have ordered sets as gifts. The students are enthralled, whether they understand the concept or not (I have taught 1st to 8th grade science. I will probably always be ordering a set or two as the school year goes by :0)

this works well although it seems the weight of the top rings lessens significantly the distance between the bottom two rings. it is a good example of how magnets work. kids love it

Everyone loves playing with this cute stocking stuffer. Great fun to squish them together and let them spring back. Would be a good addition to an Easter basket too.

My three year old grandson is obsessed with magnets. He loves these rings and is fascinated by the repelling and attraction of opposite sides. It works so well with our other magnetic objects, especially the magnetic wand.

Several years ago I bought a set of these for my class for our magnets experiments. The kids (and I) love them! They are fun and it is so cool to see the kids trying to figure them out based on what they know about magnetism. Also, some of my kids have made them do "tricks" even I didn't think of!

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set to plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

2-PS1-2

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set to investigate and analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.

3-PS2-4

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.

MS-PS1-3

Students can use Floating Ring Magnets to gather and make sense of information during an investigation.

MS-PS2-3

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set to ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of magnetic forces.

MS-PS2-5

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set to conduct an investigation and evaluate the experimental design to provide evidence that fields exist between objects exerting forces on each other even though the objects are not in contact.

DCI-MS/PS3.C: Relationship Between Energy and Forces.

When two objects interact, each one exerts a force on the other that can cause energy to be transferred to or from the object.

HS-PS3-5

The Floating Ring Magnets can be used to develop and model how two objects interacting through magnetic fields, illustrates the forces between objects and the changes in energy of the objects due to the interaction.

HS-PS3-5

The Floating Ring Magnet Set can be used to develop and model how two objects interacting through magnetic fields, illustrates the forces between objects and the changes in energy of the objects due to the interaction.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set in the design of a device that works with given constraints to convert one form of energy into another form of energy.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

DCI/HS-PS2.B

Investigations using the Floating Ring Magnet Set will demonstrate the attraction and repulsion between magnetic forces.

Floating Ring Magnets open up a whole new world of magnetic fields, acting on one another. Students investigate the repelling magnetic fields or floating magnets. Stacking 4 Ring Magnets to reveal how accumulated magnetic fields act on each other.

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Ceramic Magnets to Develop a model to describe a phenomenon. This sealed container of filings helps younger learners and prevents a mess, as they discover magnetic properties.

DCI/PS1.A

Each pure substance has characteristic physical and chemical properties that can be used to identify it.

2-PS1-2

Matter can be described and classified by its observable properties. Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set to test for materials that are attracted to a magnet.

MS-PS2-5

The Floating Ring Magnet Set is a wonderful tool to show the interaction of magnets without contact of those magnets.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Floating Ring Magnet Set in the design of a device such as a Rube Goldberg machine.

DCI/HS-PS2.B

Investigations using the Floating Ring Magnet Set will demonstrate the attraction and repulsion between magnetic forces.
