Changes color in UV light from the Sun (or other long-wave UV source).

Description

When exposed to ultraviolet light from the Sun (or other long-wave UV source), UV nail polish changes color! The change is reversible. When the UV Nail Polish is removed from sunlight, it returns to its original color! Although the product is great for nails, it can just as easily be painted on an index card or acetate to make an ultraviolet light detector that can be used for testing the effectiveness of sunscreen lotion or any other UV filter. We suggest more than one coat for the best color. 0.25 oz bottle

Nail Polish is not available for International Shipping or shipping by Air. It will be removed from any International orders. Shipments by Express Services will be reassigned to UPS Ground.

It really works!

I bought the clear-rose bottle & used 2 coats. It goes on clear. In just a few seconds in the sun, it turned a very soft, beautiful "bridal" pink. Who would have thought I would be buying nail polish here, but I'll do it again!

UV Detection Items
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Apr 17, 2019
EI provides a number of items that are responsive to ultra violet light. The UV detecting beads appear to be the most popular based on the number of reviews, however, there are many, many more. One is the UV color changing nail polish. Our first time using this was in our FEMMES (Females Engaged in More Math, Engineering, and Science) outreach presentation, which was staged for girls ranging from 4th thru 6th grade). They all seemed to enjoy this part of our presentation including running outside to see how the polish changes under the sunlight. At our Alumni Weekend outreach presentation, both girls and boys of all ages, we thought only the girls would enjoy using the nail polish but some of the boys did as well. At this event we gave a bottle of nail polish to each girl and a UV Outside Detector to each boy. Afterwards, we wondered whether we were promoting girls to look as something they could do or if it was creating an atmosphere where the girls did "girly" things while the boys did more direct science. We still don't know the answer. Still, the girls seemed to enjoy painting their nails, especially at the all girls events. The Glow-Bright is another product that glows under UV light that has a number of uses, including how well one washes his or her hands. The fluorescent mineral set is another product that one can look at how the rocks glow under UV light. We have found that it needs to be really dark in order to see the fluorescent minerals glow under UV light, but still interesting to the audience when they see the minerals glow. The UV Sensitive Putty Arctic Flare, and the Invisible Ink Spy Pens are other products which work on the principle of glowing under UV light. Audiences are fascinated with all of these products, but the beads seem to always win out over the others. We've also found that some drivers' licenses, currency, and ID cards, and many other items that also glow under UV light, some of which have applications used in the "real" world. All of these are great means of showing how UV light affects certain materials causing them to change colors and/or glow. Great products!

I love this. It shows obvious change and will be great during my emission spectra lessons (not to mention for adding to my nerd-girl status)

UV detectors!
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Apr 17, 2017
This worked great and both boys and girls used them. The boys used the clear and it was so fun to watch it change back and forth. It also was a hit with the girls. The sparkle was not as good as the other two, it took quite a few coats on that one.

Glitter Doesn't Work
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Oct 2, 2015
We tried the glitter variety. Didn't work. Wrote to tell them; they said it takes three coats. Didn't take the time to try that. It states no where that it takes three coats. How on earth would I have time to paint three coats on something in the classroom? Even if I painted 3 coats at home - would take too long. Plus fumes are very noxious. Very disappointed.

LOVE IT

This nail polish was super easy to apply and dried in only about 5 minutes. It responded almost instantly in the sun, but was clear inside (like advertised) and I was able to wear it on stage without it being distracting. I highly recommend this nail polish.

A Snazzy UV Indicator

The "clear-to-rose" UV color-change nail polish worked perfectly! We used it with a UV-blocking "top coat" polish as part of a science project, and it worked very well!

Very unique nail polish. Goes on clear and stays clear while inside, and turns a nice rose shade when you go outside.

Fun Product
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Jun 29, 2012
This was a fun surprise for my girls. It is truly clear and turns a pretty, dark rose color tint in full sun. It does chip & peel fairly easily, but kids do wear polish pretty hard and I actually prefer to not have to use nail polish remover on little ones.

UV Nail Polish
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon May 22, 2012
The UV nail polish is a fun product that noticeably changes color in the presence of ultraviolet light. In addition to wearing it (even the guys couldn't resist!), my students painted color swatches on index cards, then compared the effectiveness of their personal sunscreen and sunglasses. This is a fun end of the year learning activity, when kids have sun and vacation on their minds...

The girls loved it!

My girls painted their nails with this stuff and they loved it. They did some great experimentation too. Everytime they have friends over they want to paint their nails, it is great to add some science to that experience.
