Description

Give this top a spin and watch it move for hours without stopping. Secret Revealed: The top contains a small magnet. When this magnet moves past the center of its base, the top's spinning magnetic field induces a current in a coil, which closes a switch, allowing a battery to momentarily energize a small electromagnet. The top increases its rate of spin and moves away from the center of the base. Top: 2.5 cm (1.0"), Base: 8.0 cm (3.1"), (Note: 9-volt battery not included)

"Top Secret": this top will stay spinning for more than a week- because it is actually a motor! The top is a dipole magnet (as revealed by Magneview film) and the base has an electromagnet that gives the dipole a push when the top comes near the center. An ingeniously simple circuit consisting of only a battery, a coil, and a transistor, is activated when the spinning magnet nears the coil turning on the electromagnet to give a boost to the spin of the magnetic top. For the grandkids

I purchased the items for my grandkids. It was worth every cent just to be able to see the smiles on their faces. And the adults in the family have done a lot of playing with the items. Really enjoying everything.
