Description

Ulexite - The Television Stone
These amazing mineral specimens of hydrated sodium calcium borate are composed of thousands of fibrous fragments which transmit light. When the polished bottom surface is placed upon a printed page, the words can be read on the top surface, giving the appearance of a television screen. Ulexite is a naturally occurring fiber-optic material -- a fantastic addition for your science table! Each specimen is about 1/2-inch thick with a surface area of approximately 2.5 cm. All naturally occurring Ulexite contains some impurities. Price is for one stone.

The piece I got was a bit more flawed than the one shown, but certainly demonstrated the fiber-optic nature of the mineral.

EXTREMELY cool mineral

My son and I have enless fun with this very fun "rock". We've decided the best use for it is to hold it super close to our eye. The resulting look (as this mineral "pulls" the underlying image to it's surface) is pretty creepy!!!!
