Description

Make your own amazing designs and watch them shrink in the oven (with adult supervision). Make key fobs, zipper pulls, window ornaments... a world of things to create. Works great with permanent markers, or "scuff" the sheets with fine sandpaper to use with colored pencils. Each pack includes 50 sheets of Shrinking Plastic, 100 loops for keychains or zipper pulls, one sheet of fine sandpaper and instructions. Can be used as a refill for BIO-150, Shrinkles® Plant and Animal Cells.

Make shrinky dinks with this

These sheets are wonderful for shrinky dinks. I cut a sheet in fourths and I am able to get enough shrinky dinks for all my students. This is a great end-of-year activity for high school chemistry, especially in conjunction with a unit on polymers.

These are a great method to have students learn material they'd normally just view on a diagram- we used them quite often in a senior level anatomy course. Having to draw the diagram helped them learn it better than just seeing it in the text. I found I could also use the bypass tray on the copier to photocopy diagrams for them to label, color, and shrink!

I used it with older students to review cells and their structure. It was an easy way to review and the high school students had discussions on how they don't colour enough anymore. I had the students turn them into keychains (use a single hole punch 6 times to keep the hole large enough) or stuck flexible magnet tape on the back, for their lockers. Even when the plastic shrinks in the oven, the students were mesmerized, just like little kids!

Suggested Science Idea(s)

Students can use the Shrinking Plastic Sheets, colored pencils, and permanent markers to learn about density change in a material. Have some fun—draw, color and label the essential information on a sheet. Punch six close holes in the sheet before you shrink it down and students can make key chains, zipper pulls or backpack tags. No hole; add flexible magnet tape on the back, for a kitchen or locker magnet. Use a toaster oven and let students watch. They will be mesmerized as science takes over their shrinking project!
