Fascinating to watch the eddy currents form by the flowing sand in a moving liquid!

Description

When inverted, three different colored sands flow through a clear liquid, starting and stopping as they encounter a hole or a barrier. It is fascinating to watch the eddy currents form by the flowing sand in a moving liquid! If one looks carefully, one even can observe upward motion of fluid, as everything else seems to be flowing downward. Colors may vary (14 x 20 cm)

I use this in a Science learning center. Students are fascinated and generate some great questions.

Worth every cent!

I bought this nervously when I read that someone thought is was "cheap", but I really did not want to buy the more expensive ones so I thought I would give it a try. If it was a waste of money, it wouldn't be that much of a problem. Since it has come, neither my husband (an AP physics teacher) nor myself (an 8th grade science teacher) could stay away from it. We have already gotten my money's worth out of it. It is very cool and brings up many thoughts about processes. Is it density? particle size? etc. I love it!

I had purchased one Sandscapes in Nov. and it was great - nice colors and worked very well! I decided to buy 3 more to have on hand for quick gifts. When they finally arrived, they contained only black and white sand, not even any shades of gray, and they were riddled with air bubbles.
