Using code, young engineers can dream up hundreds of projects.

Description

These innovative kits allows kids to build their own real-world projects and wirelessly program them from a tablet. As they experiment, they're not only learning about science and engineering, they're also building confidence in their problem-solving abilities. Drag-and-drop code blocks and guided tutorials make it easy for young engineers and innovators to design exciting projects. Detailed instructions and sample projects available online.

This is STEM at its best! It's a simple, three-step process:

  • Build: snap together magnetic blocks to build your circuit
  • Learn: use the app to review your circuit and adjust any mistakes until the electricity flows
  • Code: connect your circuit with a tablet and program it to do anything!

TESLA KIT: With the power of code, young engineers can dream up hundreds of projects. The only limit is their imagination. Build a burglar alarm, a jukebox, a sunrise-triggered alarm, and more. Includes rechargeable battery, microcontroller, buzzer, light sensor, momentary switch, 5K resistor, seven wire blocks, and micro USB cable.

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

1-PS4-2

Students can experiment with the LightUp Kits to make observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects can be seen only when illuminated.

K-2-ETS1-1
K-2-ETS1-2
K-2-ETS1-3

Students can experiment with the LightUp Kits to utilize engineering skills and proper testing methods of materials and design.

3-PS2-2

Students can make observations and/or measurements of the LightUp Kits. Students can utilize an object's motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future action.

3-5-ETS1-1
3-5-ETS1-2
3-5-ETS1-3

Students can use the LightUp Kits to study a number of engineering problems including: specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost, generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem, and plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled with failure points are considered in prototype revisions.

MS-PS4-2

Students can experiment with the LightUp Kits to develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.

MS-ETS1-2

Students can experiment with the LightUp Kits to evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

HS-PS4-1

Students can use the LightUp Kits to conduct investigations and use mathematical representations to support a claim regarding the relationships among the frequency, wavelength, and speed of waves traveling in various media.

HS-ETS1-4

Students can use the LightUp Kits to conduct investigations with computer simulations to model the impact of proposed solutions to complex real-world problems with numerous criteria and constraints on interactions with and between systems relevant to the problem.

Edison relied heavily on tedious experimentation for most of his discoveries, a commitment which some historians attribute partially to his lack of formal education. Tesla, in contrast, was an emotionally driven dreamer with years of engineering training, which allowed him to work out theories before physically implementing them. Encourage student to research, debate, and utilize evidence to support a position regarding the development of Edison's DC motor versus Tesla's AC motor.
