Hydrophobic Sand Tube NGSS

SKU #MS-4
Availability: Out of Stock
Great for learning about hydrophobic (water fearing) substances.

Description

This amazing sand is dyed and coated to repel water, so it's always dry. Great for learning about hydrophobic (water fearing) substances. When submerged in water, the sand can be molded into structures. Simply separate from water to reuse! Colors will vary. Sand comes in a 5.5" plastic test tube. About 50 g.

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

5-PS1-3

Students can use the Hydrophobic Sand to make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties.

5-PS1-4

Students can conduct an investigation to determine whether the missing of two substances (Hydrophobic Sand and water) results in a new substance.

MS-PS1-1

Using the Hydrophobic Sand students can develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and their structures or properties.

HS-PS2-6

Students will observe and communicate scientific information about why the molecular-level structure is important in the functioning of a material. Emphasis is on the repulsive forces and the hydrophobic nature of the Hydrophobic Sand.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

DCI/HS-PS2.B

Investigations using the Hydrophobic Sand will demonstrate the attraction and repulsion between electric charges at the atomic scale explain the structure, properties, and transformations of matter, as well as the contact forces between material objects.
