The Abandoned Cabin Review
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Nov 2, 2021
I purchased this as part of a team building day for my staff of various ages. I split them up into groups of 4-5 individuals and gave them 45 minutes for this exercise. What I found most interesting is the only team who successfully escaped, was the team who followed the directions and used the clues appropriately. Both of the other teams, felt they could only use the first clue in each stack and therefore never knew if they were on the right track or not. Hmmmm interesting from a management and I'm sure educational standpoint! Strengths and leadership was easy to see, who read the clues but didn't participate, who organized the game pieces and who stood up in a competitive way to make this work out. It is a great team building tool for students and adults alike. It is not easy, it challenges people in a different way than we are used to, which is a good thing!

I work in a school and we offered an in person escape room challenge. The HS students were in groups of 6 working with a teacher using the kits. It was a huge hit! The hints were great and kept the momentum going for each group. The teachers had fun working as a team with their students and asked if we could do this next year.

Best $15 Ever Spent!

We love these games so much! We played our first one at a party. We love how it's collaborative and the clues are so clever. During the pandemic we've even been playing them with social distancing by setting up a camera and sending pictures. Everyone loves it and says it's a great time. The clue cards make it fail proof. We highly recommend buying any and all of them!

Escape room castle

I sent the castle themed kit to my grandson, who is 9 1/2--he loved it. He did it at least partly with an adult, and said they were surprised how long it took. I asked him to tell me how to describe it in a review, and he replied, "amazingly super-fun!"

My daughter and I had a fun time with this activity. Wish it could be reused but understand why it is not, too bad there weren't reusable or extras of the used supplies. I will definitely be purchasing more of these! We love puzzles and this fit the bill looking forward to our next adventure together.

Good... But

The content is outstanding; the idea of consumables is not. How about a classroom edition that can be replayed without destroying the original parts or even copy masters with the appropriate classroom license? That would deserve 5 stars.
Rick
Owner Response: Rick, we would be delighted to carry a non-consumable version of this product. We haven't yet found one, so in the meantime, we only have this one available. That said, for the price, we feel that this is a pretty awesome product and provides a couple of hours of thought provoking fun for students and adults.

Okay, but disappointed

It may be fun, but it isn't designed for more than one use. With adaptations, I may be able to reuse it in the library or community center, but it isn't for classroom use.

Owner Response: You are correct, Anne. This kit is intended for one use only. That said, I think it is a fun and creative way to encourage critical thinking and logical reasoning in students.

My family and I had so much fun with this game! We have done two so far, and I hear rumor that three new Exit games are coming out. I can't wait! These are just like real escape rooms but we don't need to leave the comfort of our home!

Great Fun

My 16 year old daughter and I LOVE escape rooms, and when we purchased this product it was with low expectations. After all, how could they make a game that's as interesting and exciting as the actual escape room? Well, guess what... they did! Though it took us an hour and a half to solve the puzzles, we had a blast doing so! I'm not sure who actually designed these games, but they are truly clever people! We did the Abandoned Cabin, which is supposed to be the easier of the three, and we are now ordering the Pharaoh's Tomb, and as soon as The Secret Lab comes in, we're ordering that one, too!!! Too bad there are only 5 stars available, because I would give this one a 6!
