Students, Crime Bureau Detectives, MD's, School Board Members, etc

My students Love these thermal sensitive periodic tables! Students have tried almost every variation to test it- In the freezer, nuker, hot water/cold water, run over it with their bike, put in a baggie and put it in the jacuzzi, or in snow, etc. I make sure to tell them that the thermal sensitivity is created by a coating on the paper. But! I am not the only one who loves these Thermal Sensitive Periodic Tables! I actually carry some of these around because this is an excellent way to take an abstract subject and make it more concrete, especially school board members, parents. police ID detectives I worked with on forensic science and the 2 week crime scenes, etc. When my students visit before college, they almost equivocally say, I still have my periodic table!! (they are so proud of themselves). This special paper periodic chart allows the teacher to use it as a short evaluative tool- telling the students to point to where is "O", "K", "H", and identify where the white spot impression is. Excellent tool! Then have students make compounds also . Wow!

I decided to get mine laminated so that they would last longer and students could write on them with dry erase pens. Works fantastic and the effect is not diminished.

Periodic tables

My students LOVE these tables. They quickly figure out how to make them change color and tend not to lose them. Its a great way to talk about chemistry in the "real world" as well.

Reactive Table of Elements

My ChemClub students figured out the best way to get a reaction was to exhale or breath directly onto the sheet. Turning up the 'heat' turned up the fun.

My students think they are just getting a pretty colored periodic table. I let them figure out the color change themselves. The reactions are amusing.

The paper does not change color easily and the table does not have the names of the elements on it.

In the product description, these heat-sensitive periodic tables are described as "durable." In reality they are just sheets of paper. How is this durable? I doubt they will last until midterms. Also, the color change is not to noticeable. I was definitely upset with this order. Product description needs to be changed.

Coolest idea for a periodic table that I have seen in a long time. My students were fascinated by it and as we discussed why they turned colors, the concept became much more clear! Reminds me of Hyper Color shirts from the 80s!

How to use this paper in warm climates

At first I thought the paper was a dud as nothing happened when we touched it. We even heated up our hands. After doing some research online I read if you lived in a warmer climate to put the paper in the freezer or fridge first to cool it down- then when you handle it afterwards the "reaction" is very noticeable. This worked like a charm.
