Description

A great deal on great magnets. These neodymium ring magnets are .711" OD x .125" thick, .375" ID (17 mm OD x 3 mm thick, 10 mm ID). Great for doing magnetic levitation, making magnet structures or just making absolutely sure that your shopping list will stay on your refrigerator... during an earthquake. Each package contains twenty-five of these amazing magnets.

Note: All Rare Earth magnets, such as neodymium magnets, are made of a ceramic and can be brittle. They are extremely strong magnetically must be handled with caution to avoid damage to the magnets and/or injury. Fingers can be pinched between attracting magnets and magnets can chip or break if allowed to "jump" at an attracting surface or another magnet. Close adult supervision is required.

Strong! Brittle!

Yes, these are ceramic based magnets, and they are super strong. Be aware that even if they "clack" together from a distance as small as 1 inch, they could break! I had this happen the first time I used them with students. Otherwise, we are loving them. Great for examining magnetic behavior since you don't need a whole stack of them to exhibit the magnetic properties

EXTREMELY BRITTLE

These are very strong magnets, but they are also EXTREMELY brittle. Fall apart for no reason and are useles.

Owner Response: Neodymium magnets are brittle, but they never fall apart for no reason. Because they are so strong, if allowed to crash together, they are likely to break. It is important to cushion their impact as they come into contact with another magnet or a magnetic item.

I'm having my students build speakers to examine magnetism, electromotive force and perception of energy in our environment. I love teaching this unit and have done plenty of shopping around for magnets. Educational Innovations offers a competitive price and quick shipping. They even gave me a discount for shipping to Hawaii! I'll be doing business with EI again!

These magnets are incredibly strong and usually pretty pricy, but not on this site. Some of the other deals on magnets and magnet kits on this site are incredible, prices comparable to buying from a manufacture with much faster shipping.

These magnets are SUPER strong! I use them in my classroom to demonstrate magnetic fields, and I also use them to hang stacks of papers, baseball caps, and thick posters to my white board! Very cool!

I am an artist and this is a great way to hang unframed art work. Thumb tack in wall and magnet on drawing.

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets to plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

2-PS1-2

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets to investigate and analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.

3-PS2-4

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.

MS-PS2-3

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets to ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of magnetic forces.

MS-PS2-5

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets to conduct an investigation and evaluate the experimental design to provide evidence that fields exist between objects exerting forces on each other even though the objects are not in contact.

HS-PS3-5

The Neodymium Magnets can be used to develop and model how two objects interacting through magnetic fields, illustrates the forces between objects and the changes in energy of the objects due to the interaction.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets in the design of a device that works with given constraints to convert one form of energy into another form of energy.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

Neodymium Magnets open up a whole new world of magnetic fields, acting on one another. Students can use a pencil or dowel to string magnets on top of each to investigate the repelling magnetic fields or floating magnets. Stacking 4 Magnets to reveal how accumulated magnetic fields act on each other.

K-PS2-1

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets and other types of magnets to plan and conduct an investigation on the strength of the pushes and pull and exert on objects.

DCI/PS1.A
2-PS1-2

Matter can be described and classified by its observable properties. Students can use the Neo Magnets to test for materials that are attracted to a magnet.

MS-PS2-5

The Neodymium Magnets are a wonderful tool to show the interaction of magnets without contact of those magnets.

HS-PS3-3

Students can use the Neodymium Magnets in the design of a device such as a Rube Goldberg machine.

DCI/HS-PS2.B

Investigations using the Neodymium Magnets will demonstrate the attraction and repulsion between magnetic forces.
