A DIY science construction kit that yields a kid-powered HydroBot arm kit.

Description

The HydroBot Arm Kit is a DIY science construction kit that yields a kid-powered hydraulic robot arm capable of performing six different functions. Students will feel a real sense of accomplishment when they operate a robot they built. An exciting introduction to hydraulics and basic engineering. The robotic arm allows users to command six axes of movements: the gripper opens and closes up to 1.89", the wrist rotates 180 degrees with mobility of 98 degrees, the elbow has a range of 44 degrees, base rotation of 270 degrees, and shoulder motion of 45 degrees. With a vertical reach of 16.35", horizontal reach of 12.42", and lifting capacity of 50 g, this robot builds science and engineering skills in a dynamic way. With the removal of the gripper, you can activate the suction apparatus. This feature enables the user to elevate objects with a larger surface area (like a small mobile phone). Another prodigious attribution is a braking system that is integrated in the lever controllers to execute all commands accurately. WOW!

How does this equate to fun? Your students will have total command and visual manipulation using the science principles of a Hydraulic system and its application. Easy-to-follow instructions with detailed graphic illustrations pave the way for successful and satisfying kit building. Compliment your engineering, math, science, and technology learning strategy. No battery or motor required. It is powered by water; thus, the "hydraulic" significance and how it manipulates axes movement via lever controllers. Recommended for ages 10+. With its 229 assembly parts, it will challenge the beginner engineering enthusiasts.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-2-ETS1-2

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit for an investigation to develop a physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function to solve a problem.

K-2-ETS1-3

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit in a variety of configurations to test and compare the strength and weaknesses of how each performs.

3-5-ETS1-2

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit to generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

3-5-ETS1-3

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit to plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.

MS-ETS1-2

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit in investigations that evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

MS-ETS1-4

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit in investigations to develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modifications for optimal design.

MS-LS1-3

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit as a model for investigations to support arguments for how the body is a system of interacting subsystems.

HS-ETS1-3

Students can use the Hydraulic Arm Edge Kit to test and evaluate the power of hydraulic lift system in complex real-world problems.
