NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

3-LS3-1

Students can use the Genetics of Blood Types Kit to analyze and interpret data from an investigation to provide evidence that animals have traits inherited from parents and that variations of these traits exist in a group of similar organisms.

MS-LS4-4

Students can use the Genetics of Blood Types Kit in an investigation to construct an explanation based on evidence that describes how genetic variations of traits in a population increase some individuals' probability of surviving and reproducing in a specific environment.

HS-LS1-2

Students can use the Genetics of Blood Types Kit to model the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions with multicellular organism.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

Students learn about the genetics that determine blood type and how possible inheritance patterns may express themselves. Using simulated blood, students explore and determine the blood types of four unknown samples. Through inquiry, their data and results to help resolve a fictional paternity dispute. The Teacher's Manual and reproducible Student Study Guide copymasters provide a framework for teaching and learning.
