Invisible Ink Spy Pens

The Invisible Ink Spy Pens are great, especially for the younger folks. The kids can write a message using regular ink available on one side of the pen such as "Grocery List" and write another secret message using the "invisible ink" on the other side that can only be seen under the UV light on the other side of the pen. It is easy for the kids to learn the various aspects of the pen and, once known, they go "crazy" writing messages. These are a great way to introduce UV light and UV sensitive materials. Be sure to keep the pens securely capped when not in use so the ink does not dry out. The batteries last a long time; however, a very small fillips head screw driver, such as those found in eyeglasses repair kits or at a hardware store, is required to open the compartment in order to replace the batteries. We have a set of 12, used over many years, and only 2 do not work; one due to a lost cap and another requires new batteries.

Exactly what we needed

We were in need of some invisible ink pens that had a blacklight attached. Educational Innovations had exactly what we needed at a good price. They got us our product quickly and I was very impressed. This was our first time using this company and we would use them again.

Fun to give, but not so useful, you can only read one letter at a time, REALLY GOOD for kids learning to read and sound out words, makes them focus on every letter.

Black Light Fun!

Loved the pens. They are expensive but work as regular pens, too. I had kids write a message and use "invisible" ink for one word. We used them for a whole day of black light fun.

Students can use the Spy Pen in an investigation to generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

MS-PS4-1

Students can conduct investigations showing evidence that the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave.

MS-ETS1-3

Students can use the Spy Pen to analyze data from sampling invisible clues in the classroom.

HS-PS4-1

Students can use lenses to conduct investigations and use mathematical representations to support a claim regarding relationships among the frequency, wavelength, and speed of waves traveling in various media.
