The perfect chemistry tool for all ages.

Description

Happy Atoms is an innovative digital and physical chemistry set that allows students to discover the world of molecules in an intuitive, hands-on way. It's the perfect tool for a budding chemist, yet it is advanced enough for older students seeking to visualize complex molecules and reinforce their chemistry studies. The atoms "bond" together using magnets that accurately portray the single bonds, double bonds, and free electrons that make up the molecules of the universe. A free app gives students a wealth of information about the molecules they've created. Includes 50 atoms, a periodic table scanning mat, quickstart guide, and 16-page experiment manual.

What are the supported devices?

For iOS:
Happy Atoms runs on iPad 2,3, 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, iPad Mini, and Mini 2 using iOS 8 or greater.

For Android:
Happy Atoms runs on Android versions 4.4 and up.

For Kindle:
Happy Atoms runs on Kindles that have Android versions 4.4 and up.

My son understood more about bonding in one afternoon than in the previous semester of Chemistry

My son's favorite subject is science. He learns best with hands-on experiments. He can memorize the vocabulary about "tetrahedral bonding" but it didn't mean anything to him until we got this set of Happy Atoms. He built all the reactions in his homework problems -- concepts like "spectator ions" and "linear molecules" were obvious. The on-line component was a nice extension to give real-world relevance. The set is very well designed and high quality. Every beginning chemistry student should have access.

My students who are ahead can use their smart phones and easily download the app and learn about molecules. A few sets of these in a class room would be a valuable asset!

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

2-PS1-3

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to explore and make observations to construct an evidence-based account of how an object made of a small set of pieces can be disassembled and made into a new object.

5-PS1-1

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to develop a model to demonstrate that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.

5-PS1-4

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to model and conduct an investigation to determine whether the mixing of two or more substances results in new substances.

MS-PS1-1

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.

MS-PS1-5

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to develop and use a model to describe how the total number of atoms does not change in a chemical reaction.

HS-PS1-3

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set to Plan and conduct an investigation to gather evidence to compare the structure of substances.

HS-PS1-7

Students can use the Happy Atoms Set and mathematical representations to support the claim that atoms, and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

These Happy Atoms kits pair hands-on modeling with technology. Young or advanced students seeking to visualize complex molecules and reinforce their chemistry studies have it all within reach. These atoms 'bond' together using magnets that accurately portray the single bonds, double bonds, and free electrons that make up the molecules. The larger sets allow for more complex investigations. A free app gives students a wealth of information about the molecules they've created. Set includes a periodic table scanning mat, quick-start guide, and a 16-page experiment manual.
