Description

Grow a beautiful crystal tree in a few hours. Simply pour the salt solution into the bottom tray. As the water from the solution evaporates, watch crystals of Monopotassium Phosphate form. Then, through capillary action, more crystals form, in a process called efflorescence. Great for observations! 6 inches tall.

Fun holiday demonstration

I ordered two of these, one for my grandkids and one for my fourth grade class. Both of the trees were a lot of fun for their audience. I set my classroom up for the last three days of the semester. They were excited to watch the changes made throughout the school day. When they came back the next day, the transformation was completed. They continued to enjoy it until the break.

Problem with Solution

I ordered this several weeks ago as a STEM craft, but the product arrived with much of the crystal solution already crystallized. I couldn't use this because I lack the means to dissolve the crystal into a useable solution (I am not a science teacher)- and the product itself contains only minimal directions and certainly does not include troubleshooting. Customer Service sent another snowman, but the solution arrived the same. Very frustrated but ultimately only lost a small investment.

These are obviously for Christmas. However, if they come out as good as the standard trees....then wow the children in the beginning STEM classes will be thoroughly amazed.

great but sensitive!

The only thing I didn't like about the kit was that the crystals are very, very sensitive. Any wind or even slightly touching them will cause them to fall off. It was used in my daughter's science fair and everyone liked it even though they feel off quickly. It would be better to cover them with a clear cover so that no one can touch or blow on them.
