Description

This pendulum is mesmerizing to watch as it traces beautiful Lissajous patterns in sand. A favorite of elementary school science tables, it can be used at upper levels to study harmonic motion as energy is transferred from a pendulum swinging in one plane to swinging in another plane at right angles. A Lissajous figure results from the two sine curves meeting at right angles. Includes sand. 22" tall!

Dual Axis Sand Pendulum: the kinetic energy trades back and forth between swinging toward the support arm and then swinging perpendicular to that path tracing Lissajous figures in the sand. The sand slowly dissipates the energy and the traced figures get smaller so the next one fits inside the last. Coupled oscillations like this can occur when multiple modes of motion (degrees of freedom) are available to the system. I have had my pendulum for years..so long that the grooves have gotten too deep for it to work. Can I order a new wand ??? I need the wood wand and new sand. What would that cost if it is possible?
