Great for sharpening those observational skills!

Description

When inverted, three different colorful droplets appear to be changing shape as they fall from the top reservoir of liquid to the bottom. How many different colored droplets are really present? (Only two.) Can you infer anything about their densities? Why do the drops change shape as they fall? Great for sharpening those observational skills! Colors may vary. 14.5 cm (5.6") tall.

My 4-5 yr. old children enjoy the movement they see in flowing color spectrum. It us a great additional to my color and light science unit box. Thank you!

Great inquiry starter. Students generate the questions then investigate.

Video shows yellow with 2 other colors - nice to show color mixing. Mine is a dissaapinting clear with blue and green drops. I can get this at the Dollar Store! According to representative the one in the video is discontinued. I can return it, but not worth the shipping costs I have to pay.

Owner Response: Susan, I'm sorry you are disappointed with the Flowing Color Spectrum. I have double checked on our website, and all three styles are depicted and the description does state that colors may vary. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can certainly return the product, however aside from making 3 separate videos, I'm not sure how else we can show that there are three different styles. I have also double checked, and though we do not have any of the yellows currently in stock, they have not been discontinued by the manufacturer. We should have more of the yellow spectrums in about three weeks.

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

1-PS4-3

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum to conduct an investigation to determine the effect of placing objects made from different materials in the path of a beam of light.

2-PS1-1

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.

5-PS1-1

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles too small to be seen.

MS-PS1-1

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.

MS-PS4-2

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.

HS-PS2-6

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to communicate scientific and technical information about why the molecular-level structure is important in the functioning of designed materials.

HS-PS4-3

Students can use the Flowing Color Spectrum in an investigation to evaluate the claims, evidence, and reasoning behind the idea that electromagnetic radiation can be described by either a wave model or a particle model, and that for some situations one model is more useful than the other one.
