Calling All Rocket Scientists!

Wow! These rockets were the star of my STEAM event!!! We tested out how far these rockets would go in the sky based on how much water we put inside the rocket. My students loved to see these rockets fly and I loved how we could use them again and again. Very durable and easy to use. By far my favorite rocket station for elementary students!

I have used the fizzing tablets and film canisters for a lab in the past, so I didn't expect these to go that high... boy was I wrong! Great Design. The only complaint from my scientists was when they ran out of fizzing tablets! Next year I'll order an extra box of tablets to keep the variable expermentation going.

Great Rockets - Tons of Fun
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Jul 31, 2019
Purchased these to use for an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Had a great time with kids and adults from 5 to 20 yo. For max height really need to push the end down to seal the rocket well which was a bit tough for the younger kids. One suggestion is to make the piece holding the alka seltzer tablet out of the water 4 prong rather than 3. It was pretty easy to for 1/2 a tablet to slip down into the water with just the 3 prongs. Not a deal breaker by any means. Great rockets - tons of fun.

What a wonderful way to teacher Newton's Laws! It gets students involved and I have never met a student that didn't want to shoot off a rocket. This is an inexpensive way to get them totally involved and wanting more.

NGSS

This product will support your students' understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*, as shown in the table below.

Elementary Middle School High School

K-PS2-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate movement. Students can analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull.

2-PS1-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate movement. Students can analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have the properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.

3-PS2-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate motion. Students can make observation and/or measurements of an object's motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion.

MS-PS2-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate movement. Students can plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object's motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.

HS-PS1-4

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to develop a model to illustrate that the release or absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends on the changes in total bond energy.

Suggested Science Idea(s)

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket is translucent. This allows students to see what is happening during the chemical reaction. It has a nose cone, three fins, an internal platform to hold an Alka-Seltzer tablet and a firm seal conducive to a number of classroom activities. The platform is especially helpful as it permits even young students time to add the water and Alka-Seltzer seal up the canister before activating the chemical reaction.

K-PS2-2

When the Mighty Seltzer Rocket is loaded with Alka-Seltzer or various reactive chemicals that produce a gas, students can run trials to determine which variable gives the best lift off or push of the rocket.

2-PS1-2

When the Mighty Seltzer Rocket are loaded with Alka-Seltzer, students can run trials to determine with variable gives the best lift off or movement of the canister.

3-PS2-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate motion. Students can plan an investigation with variables; make observation and/or measurements of the canister's motion to find pattern that can be used to predict future motion.

HS-PS1-4

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to create a simple rocket or to explore chemical reactions.

MS-PS2-2

The Mighty Seltzer Rocket can be loaded with Alka-Seltzer tablets and water to investigate movement. Students can plan an investigation with variables like vinegar and baking soda that test and provide evidence that the change in an object's motion is related to the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.
