Like our smaller versions, if you place these spheres in water and they expand about 300 times, producing gel-like spheres. Students love to feel the slippery, spherical gel! These Gigantic-Sized Spheres start with a diameter of ~15 mm and grow to a diameter of ~57 mm. Ask students to determine the change in volume, using V = 4/3 pr3. Can be colored using food coloring. The polymer is similar to our super-absorbent, polyacrylamide polymer (GB-5B and GB-3) and can be dried and reused. (Each package contains ~60 - 70 spheres)

Comments:
For my son's 8th birthday we had a science-themed party. We did several experiments, and had the kids make hypotheses before and observations after each one. The growing spheres were the party favorite! Each kid put one in water with food coloring at the beginning of the party and were amazed how big it got by the time they left! I sent some home with the kids so they could play with them later.

Comments:
Great material to use for inquiry & descrepant events. Students are amazed at how quickly the spheres appear to "grow"! Helps to generate a lot of questions that can be turned into independent inquiries.
