Super, Wow, Neat Science for Everyone with Ron Perkins
In this hands-on session, participants worked in groups to participate in a number of Super Wow Neat activities, certain to excite students to the study of science. Everyone left with instructions and explanations for each activity. Having presented over 800 teacher workshops, Ron is a master at making the complex simple, and pointing out that what we consider simple may be more interesting than we thought. Participants left with a bunch of new ideas and activities to use in the classroom
Amazing Ice Melting Blocks
This is one of the most striking thermal energy demonstrations we have seen in a long time.
Color Changing Goldenrod Paper
This paper turns bright red in bases and returns to bright yellow in acids.
Elements of the Periodic Table
This most beautiful periodic table in the world features photographs of the actual elements whenever possible.
FunFlyStick Static Electricity Demonstration
Portable Van de Graaff Generator! - Touch the Fun Fly Stick to the foil and watch the foil instantly expand and float.
Gas Solubility Demonstration ("The Baby Bottle Experiment")
Watch the nipple expand as the gas comes out of solution. Amazing to see! Great for teaching Henry’s Law of Partial Pressures.
Growing Spheres (Three Sizes)
Place these hard crystals in water and they expand about 300 times, producing gel-like spheres. Now available in three sizes.
Mighty Seltzer Rocket
This cleverly designed rocket with nose cone and fins will travel 20 to 30 feet into the air.
Mirascope
Project a real image that you can put your finger through. Using two concave, parabolic mirrors, a small object placed on the bottom appears to be floating as if real.
Mysterious Glowing Ball
When spun in a circle by the cord, one can see the white light separate into blinking red, blue, and green lights.
Newton's Apple
What better way for your students to visually understand Sir Isaac Newton's idea of F=ma, than to drop a 1 Newton foam apple onto someone's head?
Poly Density Kit
When the 1L bottle is shaken, blue and white beads mix as expected. However, when allowed to settle, a surprising change occurs.
Smashing! Steel Sphere Demo Kit
When these spheres are smashed together, enough heat is generated at the point of contact to burn a hole in a piece of ordinary paper!
Solar Tube
Watch our giant solar tube gently lift into the air. At 60 feet long, this lightweight, black plastic tube is the largest Solar Tube available, 10 feet longer than any solar bag on the market!
Ultraviolet Detecting Beads
Change color when exposed to ultraviolet light from the Sun or other UV source.
UV Color Changing Nail Polish
When exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun (or other long-wave UV source), UV nail polish changes color!
Wacky Hall Walker
Investigate the amount of potential energy given the rubber band vs. the distance traveled by the wacky hall walker.
Woodpecker Potential Energy Demo
Raise the woodpecker to the top of the pole and watch it peck its way to the bottom.
