NSTA Boston- Chemistry and Physics with Bob Becker and Ron Perkins
Having won most of the top awards for science teaching, Ron and Bob shared some of their best lessons developed in over 50 combined years of working with students and teachers. They learned how to use heat pipes to teach vapor pressure; light sticks to teach excited states; UV beads to teach equilibrium; a simple toy to teach distillation; and how to build a motor without a single wire coil; and much, much more! In addition to presenting workshops for teachers across the United States, Bob is teaching science at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, MO, and after teaching for 33 years and presenting over 800 workshops for teachers across the globe, Ron has finally retired from teaching high school students and is now devoting all his time to the running of Educational Innovations and teaching teachers. Grades 6-college
Color Changing Goldenrod Paper
This paper turns bright red in bases and returns to bright yellow in acids.
Gas Solubility Demonstration ("The Baby Bottle Experiment")
Watch the nipple expand as the gas comes out of solution. Amazing to see! Great for teaching Henry’s Law of Partial Pressures.
Hand Boiler
These incredible devices are sold individually and in cases of 12 for your entire class.
Heat Pipe Demo
It is Super Hot and Super Cool!
Magnetic Accelerator
Could this be the basis of a perpetual motion machine? Great for open-ended discovery.
Mysterious Glowing Ball
When spun in a circle by the cord, one can see the white light separate into blinking red, blue, and green lights.
Phosphorescent Vinyl Sheet
This 'glow-in-the-dark' material absorbs light and slowly emits it over a few minutes.
Piezo Popper Kit
Igniting two drops of alcohol in the film canister will cause the canister to fly more than 20 feet into the air!
Poly Density Kit
When the 1L bottle is shaken, blue and white beads mix as expected. However, when allowed to settle, a surprising change occurs.
Singing Pipe
Heat one end of the Singing Pipe to produce a loud tone, then "pour" the sound into a beaker. Amazing!
Smashing! Steel Sphere Demo Kit
When these spheres are smashed together, enough heat is generated at the point of contact to burn a hole in a piece of ordinary paper!
Ultraviolet Detecting Beads
Change color when exposed to ultraviolet light from the Sun or other UV source.
Woodpecker Potential Energy Demo
Raise the woodpecker to the top of the pole and watch it peck its way to the bottom.
World's Simplest Motor
This easily assembled motor is able to run for more than 5 hours on a simple D-Cell battery.
