The Powers of Ten products are based on a film made by Charles and Ray Eames in 1977, and the rough sketch made in 1968. Starting at a one meter square image of a picnic, the camera moves ten times further away every ten seconds to the edge of the universe; then the journey is reversed, ultimately reaching the interior of an atom in the hand of a sleeping man. The Powers of Ten involves astronomy, biology and particle physics, and while it concerns all of these, its journey is ultimately about scale. The purpose of all of the Powers of Ten products is to expand the way we think and view the world.
This DVD includes Powers of Ten, as well as A Rough Sketch. Also included 901: After 45 Years of Working, a powerful record of Eameses' famed design space at 901 Washington Blvd. in Venice, California.
