Note that preforms have a larger diameter than most test tubes and so don't fit easily into standard test tube racks. Our polypropylene racks fit perfectly, resist spills and stains, and even incorporate built-in drying pegs. Use them as a display on your science table with soil to make sedimentation tubes or add mineral oil and colored water to make mini wave machines. The possibilities are endless.

Preforms are ~12 cm long x 2.5 cm in diameter (~5" x 1"). Interior volume of preform is approximately 28 cc (~1 fluid oz). The polymer in our baby soda bottle preforms is polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PET. This polymer has a monomer formula mass of C₁₀H₈O₄, a melting point of 260^o C, and a specific heat of 1.0 kJ/(kg-K). It has a glass temperature of 70^o to 80^o C, where it starts to soften.
