Greetings!

The regular school year is coming to a close, and opportunities for summer science are beginning!  For those of you who don't stop teaching just because it's summer, Educational Innovations has some great product ideas for you to excite the students in your summer enrichment programs.

UV Beads- A Great Summer Activity!
uv beadsWatch white beads change to colored when taken outside the building! When returned they turn back to white.  What causes the change?  Humidity?  Temperature?  Fresh air?  Birds flying overhead?  The beads contain pigments which react with ultra-violet light from the sun, even on a cloudy day.   They also change with most classroom UV light sources.   Students can make their own UV light detecting bracelet by stringing the beads on a pipe stem or strip of rawhide.   Great for teaching UV awareness!  Use the beads to test the UV blocking effectiveness of suntan lotion, sunglasses, windows, etc.   Lesson activities included.

Snow in July!?
snow When water is added to this granular white powder, it instantly expands to 40 times its original volume, producing a snow-like material. Great for showing that there is No Law of Conservation of Volume! This artificial "snow" is fluffy and can be readily poured. When wet, it adheres well to boots and is very slippery.  You can carry almost two cubic meters of snow in your briefcase; just add water! Its MSDS is the same as for sodium polyacrylate, the 'diaper' polymer! This is a great demonstration of interest to students and educators of ALL ages and abilities.

Energy Balls
energy ball Make a complete circuit with your entire group!  This interesting device consists of a 1.5-inch ball with two small metal electrodes. When the two electrodes are touched simultaneously, the device flashes and makes a pleasing warbling sound. The Energy Ball utilizes a field effect transistor so even the slightest conduction between the two electrodes activates the Sphere. It is often used to demonstrate closed and open circuits by having two (or more) students in a circle, the two end students each touch a different electrode and then activate the device by holding hands. Totally cool!
