When a simple hand pump is used to evacuate the Magdeburg plates, about 140 pounds of force are needed to separate them.
Larger View
When a simple hand pump is used to evacuate the Magdeburg plates, about 140 pounds of force are needed to separate them. Place a folded dollar bill inside and offer it to any student who can pull apart the plates. A Super, Wow, Neat way to demonstrate atmospheric pressure! Students can measure the area of the rings and predict the force needed to separate the plates based on the atmospheric pressure. The plates are made from high impact resistant polycarbonate and come with three different sized o-rings.
Hydraulic/Pneumatic Apparatus
Water or air can be used to lift objects using a small amount of force.
Lil'Suctioner (package of 3)
Slide this simple, totally amazing device over a can of soda or a beaker, place it down on a smooth, flat surface such as a lab bench and it sticks!
Microscale Vacuum Apparatus
Students can safely produce a vacuum in a small bell jar right at their lab stations.
Pressure Pullers
These cups are very simple to use: no vacuum pump - just two levers, yet they are incredibly difficult to pull apart.
