Ostrich Egg - Textured
Ostriches lay the largest eggs of any living animal. These real ostrich eggs are as beautiful as they are fascinating. Each egg has been carefully collected, emptied through a hole in one end and thoroughly cleaned. Fill it with water and compare its volume to the contents of a chicken egg. A must for any hands-on science table. Surprisingly strong and durable. You and your students will be amazed at this, the largest of all eggs!

Why textured? Sometimes ostrich eggs have a textured, rippled, almost folded area on the shell. Our research has not uncovered the mystery of what causes this, but it makes for an amazing discussion topic for your students. On some, the texture is very subtle, on others it is quite pronounced. These are a naturally occuring product so they will vary greatly. Artists sometime do intricate carving on Ostrich Eggs and prefer those that have no ripples, but we find the texture makes for a more interesting egg.

Stand available separately. Styles may vary. 6.2 cm (2.5") dia. x 2.5 cm (1")
