Water or air can be used to lift objects using a small amount of force. This sturdy apparatus allows students to observe differences between hydraulic (liquid) and pneumatic (gas) systems. By varying the input syringes, different mechanical advantages can be observed. Students observe: the easier to lift an object, the more time it takes. The force required is related to the size of the syringe. Includes: base unit with 60 cc syringe; three input syringes (3 cc, 12 cc, and 20 cc); shut off valve, connecting tubing with one-way valves; and instructions with suggested experiments.
With the optional pressure gauge and connecting tubing, quantitative pressure measurements can be made. Allows the Hydraulic/Pneumatic Apparatus (HYD-100)to be used as a scale - simply convert from the pressure reading.
